Michelin-starred chefs to serve up a host of tasty treats in Alta Badia this season

Skiers and snowboarders who love to visit Italy’s Alta Badia region during one of its food festivals, or just simply for great meals on the slopes, will be pleased to hear they are still on the menu this season with all the necessary measures needed to meet covid requirements.

The concept of ‘A Taste for Skiing’ remains unchanged during 2020/21, and eight Michelin-starred chefs will each be assigned a mountain hut on the slopes of Alta Badia, creating a dish that will be offered to visitors throughout the winter season.

Each hut taking part will offer tables dedicated to ‘A Taste for Skiing’ on their outdoor terrace. The socially distanced tables will ensure plenty of space for those who love to combine gourmet cuisine with skiing the slopes of Alta Badia, with the option to call and pre-book a table, or simply ski up on the day, space permitting. As well as this season’s dish, there will be at least one favourite from a previous year.

Skiers and snowboarders can try ‘A Taste for Skiing’ dishes at the Ütia Lee, Ütia L’Tamá, Club Moritzino, Ütia Las Vegas, Ütia I Tablá, Ütia de Bioch, Ütia Pralongiá and Ütia Jimmy mountain huts, from 12 December until 11 April.  Prices for the dishes start from €20 for the dish and a glass of wine, purchased from each hut.

The one-day ‘Gourmet Skisafari’ event launches Alta Badia’s season-long ‘A Taste for Skiing’ and this year takes place on Saturday 12 December.  Taking Michelin-starred cuisine to 2,000m above sea level, three Michelin-starred chefs, Nicola Laera (Restaurant La Stüa de Michil, Alta Badia, 1 Michelin star), Riccardo Gaspari (Restaurant SanBrite, Cortina d’Ampezzo) and Marco Martini (Marco Martini Restaurant, Rome, 1 Michelin star), will this year create their dishes in person.

Tickets cost €45 for the three dishes, one per hut, each served with a paired glass of South Tyrolean wine. Tickets can be purchased at the first hut visited on the day, or at Alta Badia’s tourist offices.

Breakfast with powder snow

Due to popular demand, ‘Breakfast with Powder Snow’ will return in 2020/21, offering skiers and snowboarders the chance to be first on the slopes. It combines a snowcat ride, a stunning sunrise and a delicious breakfast at the Las Vegas Lodge mountain hut, followed by a descent on virgin slopes.  Tickets cost €28 per person, including snow cat and breakfast, and are available any day of the season.  Book direct with Las Vegas Lodge, www.lasvegasonline.it / 00 39 0471 840138.

Alternatively, on Monday 21 December, ‘SunRisa’ will see the ski slopes of Alta Badia open at dawn, giving ski enthusiasts the chance to see the sun rise at 2,000m before heading down the slopes for breakfast at one of the mountain huts.

Club Moritzino, Ütia I Tablá, Ütia de Bioch, Piz Arlara and Ütia Las Vegas mountain huts will each be paired with a specific breakfast item, such as milk, cereal, eggs or fruits, with various dishes on offer, created with the support of the nutritionist Dott. Iader Fabbri.  Together containing the essential ingredients for a perfect breakfast, dishes offer balanced calories and nutrition, for each leg of the breakfast route from one ski hut to another.  Skiers can stop at all or selected mountain huts and purchase the breakfast specialities at each hut visited.
