Saint Martin de Belleville is described as ‘the gateway to The Three Vallées’ in France. Despite this somewhat grandiose title it remains a charmingly sleepy town, steeped in tradition and oozing authenticity. As a consequence, Saint Martin has become a popular destination for those wanting to experience The Three Vallées in a more tranquil manner, away from the hubbub of neighbouring Val Thorens.
Nestled amongst the wood clad farms, narrow streets and barns are nine chalets owned by White Mountain Chalets and The Alpine Club and the two companies recently amalgamated to create a diverse portfolio of luxury retreats.
In these chalets you will be treated to five-star service, in-house nannies and meals cooked by professionally trained private chefs. The latter is a matter of particular pride for the two companies given that Saint Martin as a resort is renowned for its gastronomic excellence.
Both The Alpine Club and White Mountain Chalets are firmly in favour of wellness, rejuvenation and relaxation. Whether you prefer a chalet that boasts historical architecture, alpine chic, spa facilities, saunas or hot tubs- these two companies say they’ve got the lot.
Five-star hotel Severin’s Alpine Retreat in Lech Am Arlberg Austria will be top of the list for ‘foodies’ this winter after the head Chef, Stephan Kriegelstein was awarded the Gault&Millau award in October this year.
The Gault&Millau award is the most prestigious gourmet award in Austria, rewarding culinary professionals for their creativity within the industry. Kriegelstein’s own imagination is abundantly evident and his clear tomato soup, Wagyu beef tartare and goose liver pâté pinwheels had the critics reeling.
This award should not really come as much of a surprise however. Before joining the team at Severin’s, Kriegelstein and his team at the Omnia Mountain Lodge in Zermatt were awarded a Michelin star. Since this achievement, the talented chef has also won the Fallstaff award for best newcomer in Austria and he can now add the Gault&Millau award to his trophy cabinet.
Rooms at Severin’s start at €690 a night which includes the use of all hotel facilities and meals cooked by Kriegelstein himself. The restaurant is not exclusive to hotel residents and is open to all fine dining enthusiasts. It will be serving food from 7pm Monday to Saturday from the 9 December 2017.
After a successful first year last season, Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges is vying to become one of Courchevel’s most sought after locations by building on its tradition of surpassing all expectations as a luxury retreat. The hotel boasts a unique collection of bars restaurants and spa facilities. All encased in a delightfully traditional yet modern chalet style building, which boasts views over the valley below.
Les Neiges certainly does seem to have something for everyone. Experience blissful seclusion and 24-hour butler service in one of the top floor suites or get stuck in with the kids in the Petit VIP area.
New for the 2017 /18 season is the rejuvenated spa area, which with six treatment rooms offers a plethora of unique and revolutionary treatments to aid recovery and relaxation.
Guests can also take advantage of what claims to be the largest ski room in Courchevel which means skiers and snowboarders do not even need to leave the hotel to try out gear and have it professionally fitted.
Perhaps if ‘retail therapy’ is your thing, then try the hotel’s ‘Skiing and Shopping experience’ which involves a five-night stay in Les Neiges followed by a two-night stay in Hôtel Le Fouquet’s in Paris.
Rooms at the Hôtel Barrière Les Neiges start at €1,200 per night. For more information visit: www.hotelsbarriere.com/en/courchevel/les-neiges
