The National Snow Show provides a new home for skiers, snowboarders, and the UK’s wintersports trade

by Lulu Sheard

A new wintersports show is being organised at the Birmingham NEC next year. The National Snow Show is taking place on the 23-24 October 2021, and will bring together skiers, snowboarders and the ski trade for a weekend of presentations, workshops, brand and retail exhibitors, entertainment and parties, alongside some of the biggest names in Snowsports.

The event is being hosted by Racoon Events, which has already lined up some top names connected with the mountains including Kate Ormerod, Billy Morgan, Jamie Nicholls, Ed Drake and Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

The weekend is aimed at both new and experienced skiers and snowboarders who can participate in an array of interactive features including an Exhibitors Lounge in partnership with MTN, Rail Jam dry slope, Rider’s Lounge, Shred Stage providing dance offs and demonstrations, Skate Mini Ramp, Alpine Après Bar and a Good Vibes Après Party on Saturday night.

More than 10,000 winter sport enthusiasts and over 140 exhibitors are expected to attend the 8,000 sqm National Snow Show. Retailers will have the chance to speak directly to consumers and help them select the right gear for their upcoming trips, and resorts, destinations and tour operators will be available to help plan, offer advice and book winter adventures.

Stephen Morgan, a passionate snowboarder, snowsport enthusiast and Managing Director of the Active Division at Raccoon Events, said: “The aim of the show is to unite the UK Snowsports scene by bringing together retail, destinations and the community to inspire participation.

“The mountains are ours, we need to protect them and make them as accessible as possible for all to enjoy. This thinking is the basis for the strategic pillars the event’s foundations are built on; sustainability, participation and retail.

“We already have a host of key partners and supporters lined up for the event including; Mountain Trade Network, Ski Club GB, GB Snowsport, Eurosport, Graystone Action Sports, Snowsport England, Snow-Camp and POW.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with brands across the market to create the must attend event in the winter sports calendar. Also, exhibitors will be given an exclusive opportunity to network at our industry drinks event on the Friday before the show, sponsored by Ski Club GB.”

Ian Findlay, talent development lead for Snowsport England and sports commentator, said: “It’s great to hear about the National Snow Show in 2021. Having a place where the whole industry can get together to celebrate and promote our great sport is exciting and a positive step for the Snowsport Industry. We are sure our membership will look forward to this new event in the Snowsport calendar.”

The National Snow Show will be welcomed by wintersports enthusiasts and members of the trade who were alarmed by the news that The Telegraph had made a decision to close down its ski magazine and the Ski and Snowboard Festival in London.

The Festival was the UK’s last remaining major ski and snowboard show following the previous demise of events in Birmingham, Manchester, Calshot and Scotland.
