The majority of skiers and snowboarders still intend to go skiing this season, despite the current number of confirmed bookings for 20/21 being relatively low so far, according to surveys carried out by various wintersports organisations.

The surveys were designed to investigate how skiers and snowboarders were feeling about the prospect of a snowsports holidays in the upcoming winter season with the uncertainty surrounding the Covid pandemic.

A survey by the Ski Club of Great Britain found that 96.7% of those who responded confirmed that they intended to go skiing or snowboarding this season, assuming the UK government did its best to remove any uncertainty surrounding holiday bookings and flights.

Another survey carried out by the Oxford Ski Company, which has been organising luxury ski holidays for more than 20 years, found that 57% of responders said they were planning on skiing or snowboarding this coming winter. 17% said they were definitely not although some of these were people who do not ski every year.

Uncertainty around future travel restrictions was the biggest factor holding 40% of respondents back from booking now. 28% of responders highlighted restrictions preventing travel to preferred resorts as the main factor influencing their decision.

This, says the Oxford Ski Company, demonstrates the importance of the lifting of blanket travel bans and creating air bridges / travel corridors to give UK residents the confidence to book overseas travel.

64% of people still expect to travel to their chosen ski resort by scheduled flight, with 22% opting to drive. This is a considerable increase in self-drive as a mode of transport, which has been predicted to be more popular than ever this year.

With the rise in self-drive, 53% of responders said they plan to travel to France for their ski break. Many indicated that they were keen to have their own space while away, with ski chalets remaining the preferred accommodation among the people who answered the Oxford Ski Company Survey.
