Beijing 2022: Ormerod overcomes her demons to compete in Snowboard Big Air

Beijing 2022: Muir and Summerhayes both make it through to slopestyle final
Team GB’s freestyle skiers Kirsty Muir and Katie Summerhayes have both qualified in the top 12 for the slopestyle final. Muir, who came fifth in the Big Air final earlier in the Games, finished sixth in qualifying with a best run of 70.11 and Summerhayes, who missed out on making the Big Air final by one place, progressed in 10th spot with 66.56.

Beijing 2022: Sixth place for Charlotte and Huw in inaugural mixed team snowboard cross

Team GB’s Charlotte Bankes and Olympic debutant Huw Nightingale managed sixth-place in the inaugural mixed team snowboard cross. Before the team event, Bankes finished ninth in the women’s individual snowboard cross on Wednesday, and Nightingale finished 30th in the men’s.

Beijing 2022: Nightingale looks forward to mixed snowboard cross
Team GB’s Huw Nightingale made his Winter Olympic debut in the men’s snowboard cross in Beijing on day 6 but went out in the 1/8 finals. The 20-year-old will get another chance to compete in the mixed team competition with team mate Charlotte Bankes on Saturday (12 Feb 2022).

Charlotte Bankes, one of Team GB’s brightest hopes for an Olympic medal, was left disappointed when she was just beaten into third place on the line in the quarter-finals of the women’s Snowboard Cross when only the first two finishers go through.

Beijing 2022: Fifth place for Olympic debutant Kirsty Muir in Big Air final
Team GB’s Freestyle skier Kirsty Muir finished in an impressive fifth place in the first-ever women’s Big Air final.

Kirsty, who was making her Olympic debut and at 17 years old is Team GB’s youngest competitor at the Winter Games, will now compete in the slopestyle competition on Sunday.

Team GB’s Kirsty Muir will compete in tomorrow’s Big Air final at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics after finishing seventh in the qualification round. Team mate Katie Summerhayes narrowly missed out after finishing 13th with the top 12 progressing.

Makayla Gerken Schofield made British history in the Moguls, securing the nation’s best ever Moguls result at an Olympic Winter Games with her eighth place finish. Qualifying through her first run score from Thursday, Makayla then put down a impressive run in the first final to secure her place in the final 12 and an historic result for her country.

UPDATE: Travelski Express cancels 21 January departure
Travelski Express, which this season reintroduced a ski train service to the French Alps, issued a recent statement concerning the travel situation to France which said: “With the continued restrictions on travel between the UK and France Travelski regrets to confirm the cancellation of the Travelski Express departure planned for the 21 January.

British skiers and snowboarders finally get a chance to ride fast new gondola to the Eiger

Last month (December 2021) marked the first chance for British skiers and snowboarders visiting Switzerland to take the swish new gondola – the culmination of a £400 million project – from Grindelwald to the highest piste on the Eiger, shaving an astonishing 47 minutes off the journey time.

Legendary ski instructor Ron LeMaster dies after collision
The North American snow sports industry is mourning the death of a ski coach and instructor who wrote several books that became ‘bibles’ for ski instructors.
Ron LeMaster, (pictured) aged 72, was skiing at Eldora Mountain Resort on Tuesday, 30 November, when he was involved in a collision with a snowboarder and died at the scene. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing. -
