UPDATE: Travelski Express cancels 21 January departure

Travelski Express, which this season reintroduced a ski train service to the French Alps, issued a recent statement concerning the travel situation to France which said:  “With the continued restrictions on travel between the UK and France Travelski regrets to confirm the cancellation of the Travelski Express departure planned for the 21 January.

“Following the relaxations in the UK and Germany, we are optimistic that the restrictions into France will be lifted at some point in the near future, but with no clear statement of intent from the French government at this point we believe it is in our guest’s best interests to commit to this cancellation now, rather than waiting to see if a relaxation of restrictions happens (and whether ski holidays are included).

“All guests booked on the 21 January departure are being contacted by e-mail and offered a full refund or the chance to book onto a departure later in the season.

“Any guests due to travel from 17 December to 22 January who have not received an e-mail direct can contact us on support.clients@travelski.com  ”

There is some good news for skiers and snowboarders once the Travelski Express is running again. The company, which claims to offer one of the safest, greenest and most reliable way of getting to and from  ski slopes in France, has added Brides-Les-Bains to its existing portfolio of Meribel, Les Arcs, Les Menuires, Val d’Isere, Tignes and La Plagne.

Bride-Les -Bains

Brides-Les-Bains is a year round thermal spa town that sits below Meribel and the Three Valleys ski area. Its historic but modernised thermal spa is now one of the biggest in France.

A 20-minute cable car ride, built for the Albertville Winter Olympics, gives skiers and snowboarders access to Meribel and the whole of the Three Valleys.

One of the other attractions of Brides-Les-Bains is that accommodation prices are noticeably lower than other Three Valleys resorts.

Travelski Express has a choice of three and four star hotel accommodation on either a B&B or half board basis in Brides-Les-Bains.

Food lovers can consider Hotel Amelie as it includes an acclaimed restaurant.

Another option in Brides-Les-Bains is the 3 star Savoy hotel in the centre of town. This former convent offers 44 modern rooms, and is situated close to the spa and Olympic cable car.

Or if you fancy some 1920s style glamour, the four star Golf Hotel offers mountain views and spacious modern rooms.

In addition to accommodation, all Travelski Express packages include return direct Eurostar travel from London, transfers to accommodation, seven-day lift pass and French breakfast on arrival at Moutiers or Bourg St Maurice at the start of the holiday (allowing you to fuel up before hitting the first lifts and empty pistes while those travelling by plane are still in transit).
