British Ski and Snowboard announce team for Alpine World Ski Championships in St Moritz

THE British team has been selected for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St Moritz, Switzerland, which takes place from 6 – 19 February 2017. After a ground-breaking season where he claimed his inaugural World Cup podium, Dave Ryding will compete in the Men’s Slalom event at the very end of the Championships, on Sunday, 19 February.

Charlie Raposo, aged 21, will also race in the GS, where he will look to better his 34th place in the last World Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek  in 2015.

For the British ladies, Alex Tilley, aged 23, will compete in both GS on Thursday 16 February and Slalom on Saturday 18 February. She will be looking for a solid result after two podiums in the Far East Cup, coupled with some frustrating races on the World Cup circuit this season.

                                           Tilley will be joined by Cara Brown, aged 23, in the GS and Charlie Guest, aged 23, who despite recently injuring her hand, is hoping to compete in the Slalom. Guest has had some solid results in FIS races in recent weeks and Brown only returned to snow earlier this season following knee surgery last year.

Ormerod takes Air + Style podium

Fifth place for Aimee Fuller at Slopestyle World Cup

KATIE Ormerod claimed yet another podium for GB Park and Pipe when took second place at the prestigious Air + Style event in Innsbruck, Austria

The rest of the GB Park and Pipe team were in Mammoth, USA for the Slopestyle and Halfpipe World Cup. Plagued by snow and windy conditions, the Men’s Ski Slopestyle contest unfortunately got cancelled after the qualifiers, when Tyler Harding was lying in second place.                                                           

In the Ladies’ Snowboard Slopestyle contest, Aimee Fuller finished in 5th position in the finals.

British Ski and Snowboard Cross

Zoe Gillings put in a strong performance at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Bansko, Bulgaria, qualifying for the semi-finals and finishing in 18th place overall.

Emily Sarsfield had her best World Cup result of the season in Feldberg, Germany, finishing in 13th position, after poor weather conditions resulted in the preliminary round results to be used as final. GB teammate Pam Thorburn finished 20th overall.

British Schoolgirls Races hit a new level in Flaine

MORE than 150 girls from 31 schools across the UK descend on Flaine, France for the British Schoolgirls Races 2017.

The two-day event attracted girls of all levels of ski racing – from those relatively new to racing, to some of Great Britain’s rising ski stars. And again it proved to be a brilliant event for aspiring

female ski racers and giving young racers aged from Under 14 to Under 21 valuable competitive experience.

BSR Giant Slalom

On day one the girls tackled the BSR Giant Slalom. Taking the overall GS prize was Isabelle Lander from New Hall A, with Isabella Colley from Reeds A taking second and Corinna Bertazzoni from Woldingham A taking third.

Taking the age group wins were Felicity Harrison from Francis Holland for the U21s, Isabella Colley for the U18s, Isabelle Lander for the U16s and Giselle Gorringe from North London Collegiate School for the U14s. 

For the unregistered racers, the winners were Felicity Harrison who doubled up to also claim the unregistered U21s prize, Alesha Jani from Wycombe Abbey A took top spot for the U18s, Alysha Brown from Moreton Hall took the U16 win and Lydia McKimm deom Wycombe Abbey A was the winner in the U14s.

Reeds A GS Shield for the Best School, with Sherboen A in second and Downe House A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Wycombe Abbey A with Moreton Hall A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot A in third.

In the Parallel Slalom, the Ladies’ Ski Club Junior Challenge Cup was won by Ipswich High who beat New Hall A in a nail biting final.

In the BSR Slalom, the overall prize was won by British racer Alexa Eliff from Ipswich High A, In second place was Corinna Bertazzoni from Woldingham A and Giselle Gorringe from NLCS A took third.

The Best Overall School prize went to Ipswich High A with Downe House A finishing in second and Reeds A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Moreton Hall A, with Wycombe Abbey A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot in third.

Taking the age group wins were Gabrielle Jabre from St Mary’s Ascot A for the U21s, Alexandra Lilywhite from Reeds A for the U18s, Corinna Bertazzoni for the U16s and Alexa Elliff for the U14s.

For the unregistered racers, Gabrielle Jabre who won the overall U21 category also took top spot for the unregistered U21s, Antonia Durant from Ipswich High was the winner for the U18s, Alysha Brown won the U16s prize and Clementine Black took the win for the U14s.

 

BSR Combined

There were also Combined prizes (the GS and Slalom times combined together) across all age categories. The overall Combined winner was Corinna Bertazzoni, with Giselle Gorringe taking second and Emily Nokes from Sherborne A taking third.

Taking the age group wins were Gabrielle Jabre for the U21s, Isabella Colley for the U18s, Corinna Bertazzoni for the U16s and Giselle Gorringe for the U14s. 

For the unregistered racers, the winners were Gabrielle Jabre for the U21s, Antonia Durant for the U18s, Alysha Brown for the U16s and Lydia McKimm for the U14s.

Reeds A took the Combined top spot for the Best School, with Downe House A in second and Sherborne A in third. The prize for the best unregistered team was won by Moreton Hall A with Wycombe Abbey A taking second spot and St Mary’s Ascot in third.

The Best B Team went to Surbiton High B with New Hall B in second and Downe House B in third.

Jamie Nicholls seals World Cup Slopestyle podium in Italy

GB Park and Pipe snowboarder Jamie Nicholls took second in the World Cup Slopestyle in Seiseralm, Italy. This follows his World Cup Slopestyle win last season in the Czech Republic.

Billy Morgan narrowly missed out on a podium finish, having to settle with fourth. And teammate Rowan Coultas claimed seventh. In the women’s competition, Aimee Fuller put in a solid

run to finish in 5th position overall.

 

Woodsy claims X Games gold and Ormerod bronze

GB Park and Pipe’s James ‘Woodsy’ Woods claimed a gold medal in Ski Big Air at the X Games in Aspen, USA.

Woodsy’s gold medal followed his 4th place in Ski Slopestyle earlier in the day, where a small mistake on one of the rails costs him the win.
