Mikaela Shiffrin has cemented her place in skiing history by becoming the all-time leader in World Cup victories, surpassing Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 wins.
The American ski racer won her 87th World Cup race in Are, Sweden, on 11 March 2023, breaking the record held by Ingemar Stenmark and solidifying her position as the greatest skier of all time.

The January ski racing calendar was extremely busy.
The New Year race scene started off with British children’s races in Austria with Ambition Ski Racing academy run races at Hinterreit and The British Ski Academy Anglo Scottish Championships in Pila, Italy.
The British Schoolgirls Races (30 & 31 Jan 2023) returned to Flaine after a three-year absence for its 62nd event.

The competition, organised by the Ladies Ski Club, attracted 143 girls from 26 schools who competed over two days in excellent conditions in front of a large crowd of spectators including teachers, parents, coaches and a guest appearance by former British Racer and Olympian Chemmy Alcott.

He jumped in the car and sped through the Alps to the Bernese Oberland at the invitation of the Swiss resort of Mürren and its British ski racing club, the Kandahar, which counts Dave among its members.
Lisa Young (left) met up with British slalom skier and Winter Olympian Dave ‘The Rocket’ Ryding who recently made history by becoming the first GB skier to win a world cup race. The Südtirol Gardenissima, which claims to be the most demanding Giant Slalom in the world, is back. It returns to the slopes for the 24th time, along with the Gardenissima Kids race, on 2 and 3 April 2022.
Brothers Neil Simpson and Andrew Simpson followed up their Day 2 gold with a bronze in the Men’s VI Super-Combined after a blistering Slalom leg catapulted them into the medal spots.
Sitting in fifth after the Super-G stage, the pair were fast out of the gate and put enough on the board to hold off the challenge of others above them in the first-stage standings, their medal position confirmed when France’s Hyacinthe Deleplace, leading from the first stage, lost time to a huge error in the upper half of the Slalom. Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli claimed the gold.
The Alpine World Cup season got back into full swing following the Beijing Olympic Winter Games during February, and British slalom skier Dave Ryding followed up his recent history making world cup triumph with another World Cup podium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
Ski Mountaineering will be put forward as an additional sport to the programme of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The IOC Executive Board has forwarded this proposal to the next IOC Session in Tokyo in July.

Cara Brown is a former British ski racer with a cabinet full of trophies. She is a five times Overall British Ladies Champion, has more than 25 other National titles, numerous Europa Cup top 20 and top 30 results, and became the UKs best ranked female speed skier.
After last winter’s competitions finished early due to pandemic lockdowns, the FIS has announced that the 2020-21 Alpine World Cup will be starting a week earlier than originally planned.

Day five of the English Alpine Ski Championships was a busy day for all, as the FIS racers, Under 16s and Under 10/12s raced across three of Bormio’s pistes today.
On the Stelvio piste the FIS racers took on two Super Gs. And it was two British racers, Jessica Anderson and Owen Vinter, who were fastest overall in both the Super G races, fighting off competition from two strong international fields.
