With an uplift in family bookings for prime dates like Christmas, New Year, February Half Term and Easter, Iglu, the UK’s largest ski travel agent, is excited to share 11 expert tips designed to help families plan their ultimate ski getaway for 2026.
This comes as no surprise, as a recent Iglu poll of over 300 skiers revealed that a remarkable 37% travel with their family – making it the most popular party type hitting the slopes.
- Book Early For peak dates for next season, secure accommodation and your travel of choice, including childcare and appropriate ski lessons. For example an all-inclusive family-friendly holiday with free lessons and lift passes can be secured now for a family of four for £2,796 per person. This price is for 7 nights arriving on 21 December, all inclusive with lift pass and lessons, based on two interconnecting superior balcony rooms in Club Med La Rosière. But the availability of family-friendly accommodation will dwindle fast, especially in all-inclusive properties.
- Be Flexible You can have a great family ski trip outside of the peak date of February half term. Easter always offers a great solution. Adults will love the sun and spring snow, and kids will have more chance to try new activities on and off the slopes, without queues. The snow at Easter in the last two ski seasons has been spectacular, so waiting until Easter for a main family ski trip could be a good idea. A four-star apartment, Résidence Le Belmont, Les Arcs 1800, France is available for an Easter Saturday (4 April 2026) arrival for four sharing from £930 per person including flights from London Stansted (+£52 Glasgow; +£83 Edinburgh) and transfers.
- Look for Deals Agents like Iglu Ski already have strong offers for families, even at peak dates, making committing to a ski trip very inviting. Example offers include 10% off Val D’Isère Chalet Hotels; free UK airport lounge access; cash discounts; £100 per child savings and 15% off all-inclusive holidays. Save 10% off the Hotel Ducs De Savoie, Val d’Isère, France, from £2,889 (includes the discount) per person based on four sharing, for bookings made by 4 June, including 7 nights half board with flights from Manchester or London Gatwick and transfers on 15 February 2026.
- Consider which childcare will suit you best There are a number of options for kids on a ski trip. Childcare can be available directly in a hotel, or in local nurseries. Age-relevant ski schools are available too. UK Tour Operators also provide childcare, if the kids prefer to join a group of kids primarily from the UK. Iglu Ski recommends Club Med properties for multi-lingual care on the slopes and in the hotel. Elsewhere, free childcare is on offer at properties such as Hotel Le Flaine, but must be prebooked. From £1,314 per person half board at Le Flaine with childcare based on three sharing with flights from London Gatwick or Glasgow departing 20 December for 7 nights.
- Chalets could be the right answer Families can grab a chalet for ease and convenience. Try Chalet Elodie, Méribel-Mottaret, France, from £1,314 per person based on three sharing for Christmas, arriving 20 December 2025, with flights from London Gatwick or Glasgow, and transfers.
- Consider something different Whilst France is the most popular destination for skiers, other destinations are also attractive. Finnish Lapland offers a magical winter wonderland and Norway offers a very warm welcome; finally Bulgaria offers low-cost family fun. Try Easter in a cabin in Levi, Finnish Lapland from £322 per person, based on four sharing and arriving on 11 April 2026. Travel is extra.
- Be conscious of the length of the transfer Families often look out for resorts in close proximity to airports in order to avoid lengthy coach transfers. Check out St. Anton, Austria or Chamonix in France.
- Look for activities off the slope, especially seasonal fun Ski resorts come alive at Christmas, New Year and Easter, with family fun on offer.
- Stay off the beaten track Choosing a lesser-known resort, such as Brides Les Bains or Pregelato will bring lower costs for families.
- Consider self-drive The simplicity of filling the car and driving to the resort brings relief to families who prefer to avoid airports.
- Consider multi-generational travel What about taking the grandparents along to a large resort with activities off the slope for non-skiers? This may mean a helping hand with the kids, and perhaps even free childcare in the evening allowing a date night for the parents. Try Lech for window shopping and cafés and a huge ski area for those who take to the slopes.
