Tom sets a new world record by completing the Great Birmingham Run in a pair of ski boots

Running a half marathon is challenging enough, but can you imagine trying to do one in a pair of ski boots?

When Tom Bracey (pictured) decided he wanted to raise funds for the Protect Our Winters campaign he generated interest and sponsorship by ditching his running shoes and donning a pair of boots to compete in the Great Birmingham Run.

Tom, who lives in the Midlands, was given help with his challenge by the expert boot fitters at Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports in Tamworth.

Tom completed the 13.1 mile event last Sunday (7 May 2023) in a time of 2 hours, 47 mins, 11 secs and exceeded his sponsorship target of £1,000 in the process. You can still donate to his fund raising by CLICKING HERE

Tom’s time set a new Guinness record for someone running a half marathon in ski boots and it follows a similar feat – or should that be feet? – in 2021 when Paul Bennet set a new Guinness World Record by running the 26.2 mile London marathon wearing a pair of ski boots in a time of five hours 30 mins, 20 secs.

Protect Our Winters (POW) aims to provide a voice to the millions of adventure sports enthusiasts who want to add their support to saving mountain environments from climate change. To find out more go to: protectourwinters.org
