Soak up the atmosphere at the Alpine World Championships while enjoying the charm of Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville

If you want to enjoy the atmosphere of watching the Alpine World Championships being held on 6 – 19 February 2023 in the neighbouring French resorts of Meribel and Courchevel but prefer to get away from it all, the locals have the answer.

They suggest you stay in Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville. The villages are not only just two ski lifts away from the racing action ,but they are also a cheaper alternative while still providing access to the 600km of pistes in thre Three Valleys

For example, you can escape the crowds and by staying in the new 4* Higalik Hotel in Les Menuires which opened in December. There are panoramic views from the pool and alpine spa as well as a huge terrace for après ski.

Alternatively, stay in luxury at the new 5* M Lodge piste-side in Saint Martin de Belleville. Family rooms for 4 are available at Hotel Higalik for €275 per night B&B or €459 on a half-board basis. M Lodge from €480 per night B&B

If you prefer self-catering, apartments are available via the Les Menuires Booking Centre from €515 (£451 approx) per person for a week from 4 – 11 February and this includes a 6-day Three Valleys ski pass

Les Menuires Tourist Office Director Marlene Giacometti said: “We are excited to have the Alpine World Championships just a valley away. By taking two fast lifts, our guests can soak up the vibe of a world class event, and then ski back to the quieter slopes of the Belleville Valley.

“We still have some great availability in our resort accommodation for the first week of the Championships and look forward to welcoming visitors this season.”

Skiers and snowboarders can dine in style at the Maya Altitude restaurant nestled at 2,300m at the top of the Tougnète chairlift above Saint Martin de Belleville and Meribel.

With a focus on Savoyard specialities, choose from two exceptional cooking methods – charcoal grill or Tandoor oven. The resorts claim this is previously unseen anywhere in the world at altitude.

Last winter saw the introduction of one of the fastest cable cars in the world, providing speedy access from Les Menuires to the peak at La Masse at 2,800m in just eight minutes. A huge, decked platform provides 360° panoramic views from the top and as the furthest of the ski areas in the Three Valleys circuit, offers quiet slopes and varied terrain.
