Paralympics Beijing 2022: Golden Simpson brothers pick up another medal in the Super Combined
Brothers Neil Simpson and Andrew Simpson followed up their Day 2 gold with a bronze in the Men’s VI Super-Combined after a blistering Slalom leg catapulted them into the medal spots.
Sitting in fifth after the Super-G stage, the pair were fast out of the gate and put enough on the board to hold off the challenge of others above them in the first-stage standings, their medal position confirmed when France’s Hyacinthe Deleplace, leading from the first stage, lost time to a huge error in the upper half of the Slalom. Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli claimed the gold.

Alterra plans multi-million dollar spending spree to improve ski areas
After many new projects were put on hold during the pandemic, Alterra Mountain Company has announced plans to invest $344 million in capital improvements for winter 22/23.
A spokesperson for the company said that this reaffirms Alterra’s dedication to enhance the guest experience at its 15 North American destinations and almost doubles the original financial commitment of $555 million over five years announced when the company was formed in 2018.

Oxygene mourns the loss of Bertrand de Monvallier, one of its founders, who has passed away
Bertrand de Monvallier, one of the founders of Oxygene Ski & Snowboard School, passed away recently following a 10-month battle with illness.
A statement released by the company said: “The entire Oxygene family is devastated by his loss and for anyone that had ever met Bertrand, they will understand what it means to lose someone that was so inspirational and passionate about skiing, life and the business that he and his brothers have built over the past 30 years.”

Fresh snowfalls across Trentino create great conditions for end of season skiing and snowboarding
Recent new snowfalls have covered the valleys of Trentino in northern Italy. The Western ski resorts such as Brentonico, Monte Bondone, Paganella, the Madonna di Campiglio-Folgarida-Marilleva ski area, Passo Tonale and the eastern side of Trentino: San Martino di Castrozza, Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa and Alpe Cimbra have all had new snow.

Chamonix hosts new event for all lovers of ski touring and epic descents
La Trace des Grands, which unites lovers of ski mountaineering and epic off-piste descents is being hosted by Chamonix Mont-Blanc in France on 19 & 20 March 2022.
The event, which is being organised by the association Outdoor Legacy, is expected to attract some of the world’s best freeride skiers. And the weekend will also include ski touring for all abilities. -
Courmayeur becomes a foodie heaven during Mountain Gourmet Ski Experience
Courmayeur Mont Blanc will be hosting the 7th Mountain Gourmet Ski Experience from 17 to 20 March 2022.
The event, which is being run in collaboration with Grand Hotel Royal & Golf, was created by Momentum Ski’s Amin Momen and celebrity UK chef Heston Blumenthal. It has built up a reputation for attracting top chefs and this season’s line-up includes Michelin star chefs Tom Kerridge, Paul Ainsworth and renowned local-chef Paolo Griffa. -

Beijing 2022: Kenworthy bows out of competitive skiing with an 8th place in halfpipe final
Team GB’s freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, who came eighth in the men’s halfpipe final, was competing at his third and final Olympics.

Gus previously competed for the USA by qualifying through his American father, but he also has an English mother and was born in Essex which enabled him to switch to the GB team.

Beijing 2022: Ollie Davies makes British debut in Olympic ski cross
Team GB’s Ollie Davies became the first British man to compete at the Olympics in ski cross. He finished fourth in his race with only the top two progressing to the quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old from Guildford in Surrey said: I’m pretty gutted. I made a mistake at the start and I was playing catch-up from then onwards.

World Cup winner Ryding sets his sights on another important event after finishing 13th in Olympic mens slalom
Slalom skier Dave ‘The Rocket’ Ryding, who recently won Britain’s first ever world cup race in Kitzbuhel, was unable to replicate his history making heroics at the Beijing Olympics.

The 35-year-old made a small mistake during his first run which left him in 16th position. In the second run it appeared he may have pulled off something special as his time of 50.44 put Ryding at the top of the standings and in the gold medal position. But the gap to the first run’s frontrunners proved too much and saw him finish in 13th position.

Beijing 2022: Slopestyle finalists Muir and Summerhayes make plans for the future
Team GB’s youngest competitor at the Beijing Olympic Games, freestyle skier Kirsty Muir, finished eighth with a best score of 71.30 in the freeski slopestyle final on Tuesday.
Her team mate Katie Summerhayes, who finished seventh at previous Olympics in Sochi and PyeongChang, was one place further back in ninth with 64.75.
