Music and film fans invited to Val d’Isère for spring festival of cultural events

Val d’Isère in France is hosting some cultural events on the slopes this spring.
Running from the 6 – 9 March is ‘Classicaval’ which returns for the second time this season. The music ‘tells a story of passion in an exceptional mountain setting’.

Jean Resine created this event in 1993, combining his two interests of music and the Alpine mountains. Over the last 30 years, classical music lovers from all over the world have gathered to meet internationally renowned musicians at the Saint Bernard de Menthon church.

Some of the musicians performing at this year’s Festival include artist in residence of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra Svetlin Roussev; internationally renowned award winning contemporary cellist Francois Salque; Jean-Baptiste Souchon-Graziani, a prestigious member of the Métamorphoses Quartet; violinist and orchestrator Lucas Henry; and Bandoneon (concertina) player William Sabatier.

On the opening day, guests are given an alfresco experience, overlooking the scenery as the pianist performs on the snowfront.

There are four days of free screenings at the Convention Centre cinema and online via the website, with films presented by French travel writer Sylvain Tesson.

This year the festival is showing 10 films covering different ways of living and accounts of remarkable journeys and adventures.
