Day five of the English Alpine Ski Championships was a busy day for all, as the FIS racers, Under 16s and Under 10/12s raced across three of Bormio’s pistes today.

On the Stelvio piste the FIS racers took on two Super Gs. And it was two British racers, Jessica Anderson and Owen Vinter, who were fastest overall in both the Super G races, fighting off competition from two strong international fields.

In the first Ladies Super G, which counted towards the English Championship title, it was a new name on the podium for 2020. British team athlete Jessica Anderson (AMB) showed her class as she finished in a time of 1.07.98 to win the race overall and take the FIS Super G Senior English Champion title. Second fastest Brit was Lois Jackson (EVO) who clocked a time of 1.09.63 and took the Under 21 FIS Super G English Champion title. The Under 18 title went to Sophie Foster (AMB) who finished in a time of 1.10.46. There was one other Senior British athlete, Jazmin Butcher (EXL) who took second on the podium. On the Under 21 podium, Kathryn Bailey (BSA) was second and Ciorstaidh Struthers (AMB) third. For the Under 18s, Holly McKey (BSA) top second position and Charlotte Warne (EXL) was third. The second Super G didn’t present any surprises, with the podium positions staying the same for all athletes across all three age-groups.

In the Men’s Championship Super G, Scottish athlete Owen Vinter reigned supreme, finishing first overall and topping the Under 21 podium in a time of 1.04.63. Second, and taking the English Champion title was Leonidas Karavasili (EVO) in a time of 1.06.49. Third position for the Under 21s went to Oliver Weeks who clocked up a time of 1.08.79. In the Under 18 category, Jack Cunningham (EVO) looked impressive claiming the English Champion title in a time of 1.06.57. Second was Robert Holmes (EVO) who finished in a time of 1.06.92. Third was Ted Slade (AMB) who finished in 1.07.14. In the second Super G, the Under 21 podium remained the same as in the Championship race, but for the Under 18s, Holmes and Slade traded positions, with Slade taking second place and Holmes third.

In the Under 16 Ladies GS, it was Charlotte Holmes (EVO) who again reigned supreme, claiming another win in a combined time of 2.12.15. Over two seconds behind her overall time was Sophie Gibson (AMB) who finished in 2.14.94. Third place went to Honor Bartlett (AMB) who finished in 2.15.67. For the Men, Aidan Urquhart (Kandahar) claimed his first win of the week in a time of 2.07.65, taking victory over Luca Carrick-Smith (BSA) (2.08.19) and Max Laughland (BSA) (2.08.70).

The U10/U12s enjoyed a fun Individual Parallel on the Stella Alpina, with their fastest of two runs counting for the podium. In the girls U12 race, it was Isabel Nowell (LIO) who took her first win of the week in a time of 22.04. She was closely followed by Lucy O’Connor (CDC) who finished in 22.25. Even closer again was Isabelle Sullivan (AMB) who was nudged into third, finishing in a time of 22.28.
