DSUK teams up with the Skier & Snowboarder magazine

The opportunities offered by Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) will now be a regular feature on the Skier & Snowboarder magazine website.

CEO Virginia Anderson (pictured here) provides an introduction into the charity organisation’s activities and how DSUK can enhance the lives of skiers and snowboarders who want to get on the piste

In a year when we’ve which watched in awe at the successes of the GB para-snowsport team, Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) is delighted to bring mainstream adaptive snowsport to the attention of readers of the Skier & Snowboarder magazine.

Adaptive skiing and snowboarding for children and adults is available for every level for skiers and snowboarders on slopes in the UK and across the world. Through this column, DSUK will share regular news and information about what is on offer and what can be achieved.

Adaptive snowsport is the name given to skiing and snowboarding for people who have a lifelong condition, injury, or life changing diagnosis. It involves adjusting the way people learn. The use of specialist equipment ensures that everyone can take part.

The joy of Disability Snowsport UK’s work is seeing people doing things they never thought possible. There are people like Noel who broke his back and became an amputee after a road traffic accident.

And Claire, whose multiple sclerosis diagnosis changed what her body can do. Today, they are both enthusiastic sit skiers and have returned to taking holidays in the mountains and participating in activities with their families and friends.

Josh, who uses a wheelchair because of his lifelong condition, cerebral palsy, says: “Since first touching the snow with DSUK, they have encouraged me to pursue dreams I did not even realise I had. DSUK has shown me a whole new world on and off the slopes.”

If you wonder how a blind skier navigates at high speed or how you can support your autistic child to learn to ski, look out for the column for news about activities in future round ups.

Disability Snowsport UK is the UK’s leading adaptive snowsport charity. In the last year alone, we’ve taught more than 3,000 lessons to adults and children as well as offering regular recreational groups across the UK.

Over the coming months, we will introduce you to the various types of adaptive snowsport and opportunities available and how you can get involved.

If you’re planning this winter’s ski holiday and there’s someone in your family who could be an adaptive skier or snowboarder, check out Disability Snowsport UK’s holidays. Trips are available for booking now in Andorra.
