This policy explains what personal information Skier & Snowboarder Magazine collects when you use this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It is written to be read, not to be waded through — if anything here is unclear, please get in touch and we will explain it plainly.

What we collect, and why
When you contact us
Our contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject and your message. We use these only to read and reply to what you have sent us.
The lawful basis is legitimate interests — you have contacted us and expect a reply. Messages are held in our email system for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and to keep a reasonable record of correspondence, and are then deleted. In practice that means up to 24 months — long enough to cover the following season, since advertising is booked a year at a time — after which an enquiry is deleted unless it has become part of an ongoing business relationship, which is kept under our normal business records.
When you subscribe to the newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter we collect your first name and email address. We use them only to send you the newsletter.
The lawful basis is consent, which you give by ticking the box on the sign-up form. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link at the foot of every newsletter, or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything sent before you withdrew it.
Our newsletter is delivered by Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), who store your name and email address on our behalf and record whether emails are opened. Brevo acts as our processor and does not use your details for its own purposes. Brevo’s own privacy notice is at brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.
When you simply read the site
Reading this website does not require you to give us anything. Our web server keeps standard access logs — including IP address, browser type and the pages requested — which exist to keep the site running securely and to diagnose faults. The lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating a secure website.
Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies and contacts no third-party services unless you agree to them. Fonts are served from our own server rather than a font network, so your browser is not identified to anyone else simply because you visited.
Where a service is not strictly necessary to make the site work, it stays switched off until you consent through our cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time through the same banner.
One optional service is in use today. Two more are listed because they could be introduced in future; neither is in use now, and this policy will be updated first if that changes.
- Google Analytics — measures which pages are read, so we know what our readers find useful. It stays switched off until you consent through the cookie banner; if you do consent, it sets cookies (names beginning _ga) lasting up to two years. Provided by Google.
- Social sharing — the share buttons on articles are ordinary links that set no cookies and identify you to nobody. If richer sharing tools were ever introduced, their provider could recognise you across other websites, and they would be listed here first.
- Affiliate links — not used at present. If outbound links to retailers were ever tagged so that we earn a small commission, that would cost you nothing, never affect what we write, and be declared here first.
Advertising
Adverts on this site are booked directly with us and served from our own server. They are ordinary images — they do not profile you, follow you between websites, or target you based on your browsing. We do not use an advertising network.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We share it only with suppliers who help us run the site and the magazine, and only as far as they need it:
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.
- Brevo, which sends the newsletter.
- Our email provider, which carries enquiries sent through the contact form.
- Any optional services you have consented to, listed under Cookies above.
Some of these suppliers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision. Our hosting provider is Bluehost, whose servers are located in the United States; that transfer is covered by the safeguards described above.
How long we keep it
- Contact enquiries — kept while we deal with them and for up to 24 months afterwards, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscribers — kept until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs — kept for a short period for security and fault-finding.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask what we hold about you, and receive a copy.
- Have inaccurate information corrected.
- Ask us to delete it, where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
- Object to processing we carry out under legitimate interests.
- Ask us to restrict processing while a concern is looked into.
- Receive your data in a portable form, where processing is based on consent.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis.

Children
This website is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their details, please contact us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where a change is significant, we will say so clearly.
