What’s new in Austria 2017/18

ZELL AN SEE-KAPRUN: The refurbishment of Zell am See’s Areitbahn ropeway, which now includes free wifi, will help bring skiers and snowboarders to the Schmittenhöhe even faster thanks to a 50% increase in passenger capacity.

CARINTHIA:  EasyJet’s London Gatwick – Klagenfurt connection launches on 16th December 2017, which will make it quicker and easier to get to ski resorts in Carinthia.

SKICIRCUS SAALBACH HINTERGLEMM LEOGANG FIEBERBRUNN: ‘Ski your limit’ is a new challenge for skiers and snowboarders. The aim is to tackle 32 lifts, 69km of pistes, 12,000m vertical descent in seven hours or less. Those that complete it get a well-deserved Challenge badge.

TIROL: An eight-seater gondola lift from Auffach to Schatzberg is a new addition in the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau area. There is also an Alpine Coaster in Alpbach, next to the Wiedersbergerhornbahn top station.

In Ischgl, a new PALINKOPF D1 lift will be able to transport an impressive 2,800 people per hour this winter.  And the snowsure ski resort will be opening earlier than ever this season. Representatives from the ski area will be at the Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Show in Battersea next month.

SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental has invested €4.5 million in the up-coming season, adding 300 heated ski storage units at the bottom lift station, expanding and improving the snowmaking facilities across the resort, and introducing seven new piste bashers to ensure even smoother slopes.

In Kitzbühel, Inghams has added two new properties to its winter programme and Ski Solutions is offering the five-star Grand Tirolia.

James Bond is returning to the Tirol this winter. A unique cinematic installation will be opening at the top of the Gaislachkogl Mountain next to the ICE Q Restaurant Sölden in the Ötztal. The iconic location was used in the 007 movie SPECTRE.

ZILLERTAL: Currently, a complimentary ski bus connects the Spieljoch with the neighbouring Hochzillertal domain. From Winter 2018/19, a new 3-S-ropeway will link the two areas,

VORARLBERG: This winter, the new Dorfbahn cable car will whisk skiers and snowboarders directly up to the slopes from Warth in Bregenzerwald’s village square.
