Gillings-Brier Secures Top 10 at World Championships in Spain following birth of baby Léa and loss of funding.

Zoe Gillings-Brier recorded her best result of the season at the World Championships in March with a top 10 finish at the Sierra Nevada World Championships snowboard cross competition in Spain.

Zoe qualified in an impressive 11th place on Saturday and progressed straight through into the finals without having to do a second qualification run.
Zoe competed in the finals yesterday where she progressed through her first heat convincingly but didn’t make it through her second heat.  In the small final Zoe placed 3rd place giving her an overall finish position of 9th.

Since losing her funding after the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, Zoe has been 100% self funded and has been doing everything she can to try and stay in contact with the worlds best athletes.

Zoe commented after the race: “I’m over the moon with this result. Over the last three years I have trained and competed on a skeleton schedule. I also took time out to have baby Léa.  I qualified 11th fastest in the World on Saturday and followed that up with a finish of 9th place overall yesterday. [This means] I know I’m still at the top of the sport and all I need to make the difference is some solid funding ahead of the Olympics next year.”

Zoe’s team mate Maisie Potter qualified in an impressive 18th place and finished overall in 14th yesterday in her first World Championships competition.
